Osaka: New and Old and Fake-old-but-actually-new

Osaka sky building is a big modern office building in the heart of Umeda that gives a great view of the city.

It’s got several gardens and an underground restaraunt mall modelled after Edo-era Osaka. It all begs the question, “Guh?”

Sumiyoshitaisha is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan, dating back to the 3rd century. It predates buddhism in Japan, so it’s one of the few places to see a completely Japanese-style architecture.

My friend Yuri took me to Sumiyoshitaisha as well as to Osaka castle. I’m not really a fan of Osaka castle, as it burned down several times and was last rebuilt less than a hundred years ago. It’s practically new.
