Old City New City – Summer Trip 2007
The next day we went to Yuyuan Gardens in Old Shanghai City, considered one of the best gardens in China… Whatever that means. We went for the Xiaolongbao sold at a famous restaurant in the Old City. It’s a three story restaurant with each floor a different method of serving. On the bottom floor you stand in line and you get 24 xiaolongbaos for 16rmb ($2) in a takeout case. On the 2nd floor you pay twice as much but there are shared seats you can actually sit down and not much of a wait. The third floor you spend 10 times as much, which frankly is still cheap, and you get private tables and apparently the finest xiaolongbao they have. I say apparently because damned if we could turn down 12 cents a boa. We got 48, drenched them in vinegar, and went through them in about 3 minutes sitting by the green lake. Then went for dim sum. Then walked around the gardens. They were actually pretty nice, but can’t really compare to food.
Ann getting a silhouette made.
We did some shopping and then went for dinner, and then to The Bund.
Chinese rice wine. The cheapest bottle. It was excellent.
A little more pig’s hair in the skin than you’d find on the HK version.
Peking duck. It was great but still better in Peking
Looking for the cheap rice wine. We couldn’t find it but 25 cent bottles of beer did nicely.
DIU 48 BAOS!
